The famous, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil Brass Monkey characters.
The original monkey characters are from a Japanese proverb, with the characters:
- Mizaru, who sees no evil, covering his eyes
- Kikazaru, who hears no evil, covering his ears, and
- Iwazaru, who speaks no evil, covering his mouth
It is actually thought to have originated from a similar Chinese saying, which translates to “Look not at what is contrary to propriety; listen not to what is contrary to propriety; speak not what is contrary to propriety; make no movement which is contrary to propriety”
In Buddhism, the proverb has its meaning in not dwelling on evil thoughts.
Whatever the origins and meaning, the neutral colour tones of this set, will fit well with any existing home decor, adding serenity and calm to the interior or exterior design.
