How Can I Find And Plan Time To Meditate?
There is an old Zen saying that I love, “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you’re too busy, then you should sit for an hour.”
How it works
- Meditation is not just another activity it is an investment that will give you a fantastic return.
- In addition to being mentally and physically calming, you mind will develop greater focus leading to greater productivity.
- There are no barriers to meditation. It can be at any time and in any place.
While we all are busy with our work, life and even relationships, we still need to make some time for ourselves, even if it’s only a brief period each day .
Saying we’re too busy is simply an excuse to not do something. After all there are many of us who say we’re busy, when we could easily set aside some time for a range of activities.
So, how do you find and plan time for meditation?
The first thing that’s needed, is the correct mindset. You need to view and understand that time spent meditating, is an investment, on which you will receive a fantastic return. By investing your time and efforts into meditation, you will be laying the foundations for present and future returns, that will include better mental & physical health, increased spirituality and a sense of belonging to the universe.
I would say that’s a sound investment and if you agree, then commit to putting some time into it each day and watch as your time invested manifests itself in wonderful ways.
Spending time meditating also helps to focus the mind, which in turn, makes us more productive, meaning we can get more done in less time. This increased free time is as a result of spending time meditating, so while it may seem strange to suggest that sitting quietly is highly productive, it’s actually a fact. Not only that, but it’s something you can benefit from if you choose to invest in meditation on a regular basis.
Another thing to understand, is that there is no correct time or incorrect time, to meditate. Meditation is a practice that can be engaged in 24 hours of the day, you simply need to make the time. If you have 15 minutes in the morning before your partner or children rise, then use it to meditate. Maybe it’s on an evening as your partner is taking a bath that you choose to take 15 minutes to meditate. The thing is, it doesn’t matter where or when you meditate, just that you do.
Even a little time invested each day, helps you to understand the many mental and physical benefits of mediation, and that encourages you to put more time aside for your practice. Meditation calms you down, opens your mind and lets you reconnect with yourself. It reminds you of what’s important, rebalances your emotions and helps you see the bigger picture. On a physical level, it can lower your blood pressure and heart rate, lessening the risks of cardiovascular disease.
The way to take control of your busy life, is through the mind and by meditating for even a short period, you will find that through increased focus and productivity, you will naturally become less busy. So as strange as it sounds, sitting quietly for 20 minutes, might just be the most productive thing you’ll do today.
Investing a small amount into meditation each day, will be the best decision you could make and very soon, you’ll start to see your returns coming from all angles.
