The rollercoaster has speed, it has highs and it has lows and you are just along for the ride, which is exactly how life feels much of the time. We are just along for the ride, as our emotions experience these huge highs and devastating lows that we seemingly have little or no control over.
Meditation gives us that control. Meditation can help to straighten out the track, so that the huge swings between high points and low points aren’t so extreme. We can use our meditation time to calm down our emotions and psyche, so that we are better able to handle situations and avoid the low emotional states that are normally felt during periods of adversity.
The good news is, we don’t have to sacrifice the highs, to smooth out the lows. in fact, not only can we still find excitement and joy in all the things we currently do, we may even enjoy them more, as we are living in a state of improved emotional balance.
So how do we achieve this? The first thing we need to do, is gain perspective, which we spoke about recently. Once we have perspective, we can start to introduce more compassion, kindness and tolerance into our daily lives, as explained previously. Once we have perspective and a sense of compassion, we see the world a different way and the things that would normally drag us down emotionally, cease to bother us anymore. With this new attitude, we can shrug off the silly little annoyances of life and enjoy a balanced and healthy emotional state.
When you meditate, focus on the perspective you have on life and the compassion and kindness you show to others. This will naturally relieve you of many of the stresses and anxieties you feel at the moment. Each time you meditate on these topics, you will find it becomes easier and the result are more noticeable. As these stresses and anxieties reduce, so it will become easier for you to retain a sense of balance and equilibrium in your emotions.
So, maybe, Life is a Rollercoaster, but it’s up to you what the track looks like. You can choose the massive highs and the terrifying lows, or you can choose something else. That choice, is yours to make.
