It Teaches You To Be Kinder To Others
We have already spoken about gaining perspective on what’s truly important, and showing kindness to others, is an extension of that understanding.
How it works
- Today’s society and lifestyle can place enormous stresses on to us, with seemingly minor things capable of making our blood boil.
- Meditation has a tremendous balancing effect on our emotions and helps to smooth out our tendency for highly emotional reactions to trivial events.
- Remember the old saying “you don’t give to receive” which is generally used to describe acts of giving things, either gifts or money. It means, you shouldn’t give someone something, in the expectation that you will get something in return.
Meditation helps to put things into perspective, and when that happens, you’ll start to know what being kind does to not only you, but those around you. Meditation can actually help us to lead better lives, whilst ensuring we avoid many of the emotional pressures people often feel.
Today’s society and lifestyle can place enormous stresses on to us, with seemingly minor things capable of making our blood boil. How many times do we flare up out of all proportion over silly little things, that shouldn’t really bother us? Road rage, having to dodge people glued to their mobiles and paying no attention to their surroundings, the impolite cashier in the supermarket; all of these things can lead to an explosive reaction if we don’t have control of our emotions.
Put simply, we can choose to love or hate, both are within our capabilities.
Meditation has a tremendous balancing effect on our emotions and helps to smooth out our tendency for highly emotional reactions to trivial events. As you meditate, you are alone with your own thoughts and there are no external influences to trigger a reaction from you. Your mind settles into a lower brainwave pattern, which relaxes the muscles and lowers the blood pressure. You feel different. You feel better. You feel more balanced.
Remember the old saying “you don’t give to receive” which is generally used to describe acts of giving things, either gifts or money. It means, you shouldn’t give someone something, in the expectation that you will get something in return.
Now let’s try that same saying, but apply it to kindness. Providing you are giving kindness and consideration unconditionally, then you will feel whole and satisfied by your behaviour. If the cashier in the supermarket is impolite, smile and them and say thank you. You don’t know what’s happening to that person and you don’t know why they are acting as they are, so why not give them the benefit of doubt and try to be nice to them. Maybe the last customer insulted and upset them and you smiling and saying thank you, might make them feel better and feel appreciated again. By doing this, you will feel better in yourself as you have shown kindness, without expectation of something in return.
So, the next time you meditate, allow yourself to feel kindness, compassion and tolerance enter your soul and then spread it about freely in your daily life. Choose love over hate and you’ll thank yourself for doing it.
