It Helps You Appreciate The Little Things
Our daily lives are insanely busy and full of things that all need to be done right now. As we meander along in this hectic life, we forget to stop and appreciate what we have. We somehow get lost in a routine full of traffic jams, packed trains, deadlines, bills and so much more, that we rarely take the time to think about the things we appreciate and are grateful for. But we should take the time.
How it works
- Consider the riches you have, from loved ones, to a warm home to live in, to the food in the cupboards and the device that you are reading this on.
- Focus on all the things you normally take for granted.
- Remember those feelings and from time to time, meditate and remind yourself of just how rich you really are.
- Meditation allows us to look deeper into our minds and emotions and to figure out what really matters and what doesn’t so much.
Not only is it good to remind ourselves how fortunate we are, but it can fundamentally change our interactions and relationships with things and people we normally take for granted.
How many of you have really thought about all that you have, the abundant riches in your life, that aren’t counted in cold, hard cash, but in the happiness, security and basic needs they provide you with? Just take a moment to consider the riches you have, from loved ones, to a warm home to live in, to the food in the cupboards and the device that you are reading this on. Your surprised at how rich you are, aren’t you? Meditation allows us to look deeper into our minds and emotions and to figure out what really matters and what doesn’t so much. That which matters can be something truly simple, that has a deep effect on you, such as a beautiful flower that grows in your garden and makes you smile when you see it. That matters because it moves you emotionally.
After meditating, you start to appreciate what you already have, like the house you live in, or the food that’s on your table, or even the kindness someone else has shown you. You start to appreciate everything around you. It may not be as overt as “I love you”, but a more subtle one, like giving a nod of thanks if someone holds the door for you.
Try it for yourself. Set aside 15 minutes to meditate and during your meditation, focus on all the things you normally take for granted. Acknowledge their importance to you and feel genuine gratitude that they are a part of your life and do this for people, animals and inanimate objects, because if they matter to you, they deserve acknowledgement.
When you’ve finished your meditation, see how you feel. Do you suddenly find a big smile appear when your dog walks up to you, or a feeling of security and belonging when you look at your home? Remember those feelings and from time to time, meditate and remind yourself of just how rich you really are.
